Wrote a number of poems while in Spain, often signing them as W.J.H. See 545/3/473/5 Ex RAF/Journalist/ 'jack of all trades'Spain 21/01/1937. Served at Jarama,Brunete,Wounded 02/09/1937 at Belchite.promoted to Sergeant. April,1938. Wounded again 26/07/1938 at the Ebro.Hospitalized at Mataro,03/09/1938 and 18/10/1938. Regarded as 'Politically unreliable,Demoralizer'. Had been previously involved in the purchase and sale of aircraft in Britain to the Spanish Goverment during August and October,1936,acting as Intermediary between the parties involved. Worked in the Photographic Department in Ferranti Ltd, in Edinburgh, in the late nineteen fifties and early sixties.
