Free download for Spanish Civil War novel from 12-16 March

Post date: 03/03/2016

Angela Jackson's novel Warm Earth is now available on Kindle. The 2007 paperback edition has been out of print for several years but a new generation of e-readers can now download the book from Amazon for £2.10 and enjoy this moving story of three very different women who went to Spain to help the Republic during the civil war.

To mark the occasion of the IBMT Len Crome Memorial Conference on Women and the Spanish Civil War on 12 March, Warm Earth will be available from 12-16 March as a free download. Angela, who is an IBMT member and renowned historian of the Spanish Civil War, hopes that readers will help to spread the word about these remarkable women by giving the book a star rating and posting reviews.

Highly praised by Paul Preston at the launch of the novel in Barcelona, Warm Earth recently featured in the series of articles written by Michael Eaude for the magazine Catalonia Today. Commenting on this 'great story' he gave his reasons for believing it to be unlike other Civil War novels: 'For one, women are the protagonists. Then, the style is fresh and uncomplicated, far from the often portentous prose of war memoirists and novelists. And third, the book deals not just with novelised war experiences, but also with the pain of memory.'

However, as Dr Bernice Archer pointed out in the original review of the novel for the IBMT Newsletter, 'Warm Earth is far from a depressing book. It is about survival, courage, conviction and commitment and is challenging, thought-provoking and up-lifting.'
