Marking the annual Dundee commemoration on 14 February, MSP Mercedes Villalba submitted motion S6M-20760 to remember the Scottish volunteers who went to Spain…
'That the Parliament notes that 14 February will mark the Annual Dundee Commemoration for the International Brigades; further notes that 2026 marks the 90th anniversary of the start of the Spanish Civil War; understands that the commemoration event will take place in Albert Square, Dundee, at 12 noon; remembers all International Brigade volunteers who bravely fought for democracy in Spain against the combined forces of fascism between 1936 and 1939; pays particular tribute to the 60 volunteers from Dundee, 19 of whom gave their lives in defence of democracy, and calls on workers and trade unionists across Scotland to unite against what it sees as rising fascism and racism, and to stand firm in solidarity with workers and refugees around the world.'
