'Without You I Would Not Exist'

Post date: 16/05/2015

Oxford-based artists Sonia Boué and Jonathan Moss have produced this art film, ‘Without You I Would Not Exist’, about exile and the Spanish Civil War. Running for over 14 minutes, the film sees Sonia Boué use objects to explore the experience of her Spanish Republican father who first arrived to Oxfordshire to work in a Basque children's colony. This was thanks in large part to Alec Wainman, a Quaker who served with the Spanish Medical Aid Committee in Spain, where he also worked for the Spanish government’s Ministry of Propaganda. Wainman later hosted Republican refugees in his home at Shipton-under-Wychwood in Oxfordshire, including Sonia’s exiled father.
