Update: our Annual General Meeting in Hull

Post date: 07/10/2018

Everything is in place for a memorable weekend in Hull for the IBMT’s Annual General Meeting in Hull next Saturday. The programme runs from Friday 12 October to Sunday 14 October and includes commemorative and social events, an art exhibition and a radical history tour.

The AGM itself will be from 2pm to 4pm in The Guildhall (39 Alfred Gelder Street, Hull HU1 2AG).

So far there has been only one glitch in the plans: the marble for the base element of the memorial that was to be unveiled at midday on the Saturday has not arrived from Spain (the quarry shut down over summer and hasn't caught up with orders).

There will now be a brief commemorative event at 12 noon for the Hull volunteers, but this will be inside The Guildhall.

Then from 12.30pm to 1.15pm there will be a talk by Rob Bell, ‘Don Patricio, From Hull City to Barca’, about Hull City’s Patrick O’Connell, who managed Barcelona FC during the Spanish Civil War. For more details see:

There will be an opportunity for a private view (no photos) of part of the new Hull memorial by Dan Jones in a room in The Guildhall. This will be the fabricated upper part of the steel memorial, which the artist has finished on time and which features elements of the International Brigade star and the raised fist salute.

The unveiling of the completed memorial has now been postponed until probably the new year.

Meanwhile the schedule of documents for the AGM is still being updated. The latest addition is two amendments to the Executive Committee’s proposals to introduce three-year terms of office for EC members. The Financial Report will be uploaded later this week. See:
