Reprint of Peter O’Connor’s memoir

As part of the commemorations for the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Jarama in Spain in February this year, Unite sponsored the reprint of Peter O’Connor’s memoirs ‘A Soldier of Liberty – Recollections of a Socialist and Anti-Fascist Fighter’. 

Peter O’Connor (1912-1999) was a Waterford veteran of the International Brigades.

The first booklet was printed in 1996 and was sponsored then by the MSF Manufacturing, Science & Finance union (legacy union of Unite), of which Peter was a member. The book was formally launched by Jimmy Kelly, Ireland Secretary of Unite, with introductions from Noirin Greene and main speaker, Emmet O’Connor, on 3 December in the Unite Office, Keyzer Street, Waterford.
