We are very sad to learn of the death of Martin Green (born Stockport 10 July 1932, died St Austell 4 February 2015). Martin was a founder member of the International Brigade Memorial Trust and for many years was one of its most active supporters.
As a young boy he was attended AS Neill’s Summerhill school while his parents, George and Nan, served in the International Brigades during the Spanish Civil War. George was killed in September 1938 in the final action of the British Battalion at the Battle of the Ebro. Nan later became the Secretary of the International Brigade Associaton.
Green had a distinguished career in London as a literary editor and publisher. He also published eight books of his own, as well as four plays, and contributions to numerous other publications.
He had six children and lived in Cornwall following retirement.
A longer obituary will appear in the IBMT Newsletter.
