The following appeal has been received for funds to make a documentary about the new play telling the story of the International Brigade volunteers from Hull…
We are trying to make a documentary about ‘Ocho’. ‘Ocho’ is a fantastic piece of work that tells the story of eight men from Hull who joined the International Brigade to fight in the Spanish Civil War in the late 1930s. It is perfomed by students from the Archbishop Sentamu Academy in East Yorkshire.
It has been written written and directed by Jane Thornton and features music by Dave Rothery, lead guitarist with The Beautiful South.
Four of the Hull men, Jack Atkinson, Jim Bently, Morris Miller and Robert Wardle died, and Joe Latus, Richard Mortimer, Sam Walters and Bert Wilson returned.
All are commemorated on a plaque in the city's Guildhall.
This is a wonderful work that gives the young people involved a great sense of there own history, whilst developing skills and allowing them an opportunity to meet fellow students in Spain where they will also perform the play acting as great ambassodors for Hull and the UK.
We are seeking funds to finish a documentary that we hope to broadcast on British and Spanish TV. We have been able to film half of the documentary but need further funds ugently to capture the trip to Spain on 10 July, when the young people will travel to perfom the play there.
We think this will be a fabulous story for television and will raise the profile of the young people involved in Hull during this City of Culture year. It will also bring the story of the International Brigade to a new audience.
Ocho will be performend at:
Kardomah94 HUll
East Riding Theatre
and Institutre of Arts Barcelona.
To comlete our filming we need £5,000 to cover flights, hotels and final edit. Any help will be more than welcome and we will give full credit for all donations. This would be all good as an investment return with profit, should it fit you.
