The IBMT’s annual Len Crome Memorial Conference, held on Saturday 20 March, is now available to stream in full on YouTube and Facebook.
This year’s talk was titled ‘Was the Spanish Republic worth dying for?’ and featured Professor Sir Paul Preston in conversation with Professor Helen Graham. It was chaired by IBMT Historical Consultant Dr Richard Baxell. Paul Preston is one of the world’s foremost historians of the causes, course and consequences of the Spanish Civil War. His latest book is ‘A People Betrayed: A History of Corruption, Political Incompetence and Social Division in Modern Spain 1874-2018’. He is the IBMT’s Founding Chair. Helen Graham teaches history at Royal Holloway University of London. Her books include ‘Interrogating Francoism: History and Dictatorship in Twentieth-Century Spain’ and ‘The Spanish Civil War: A Very Short Introduction’. She is also an IBMT Patron. Richard Baxell is the author of 'Unlikely Warriors: The British in the Spanish Civil War'. He is a research fellow at the LSE and the IBMT's Historical Consultant.
