Film about David Ostrovsky

Eran Torbiner, director of the ‘Madrid before Hanita’ (2006) documentary about the Jewish International Brigade volunteers from Palestine, writes from Israel about his latest project…

Dear friends and comrades, 

Warm thanks for all the birthday greetings. My birth date, as usual, is the date on which the fascist rebellion in Spain broke out, and the heroic resistance of the Spanish people and the volunteers of the International Brigades began. I would like to take this opportunity to commit myself to a new film that has been brewing in my mind. The subject is David Ostrovsky (1914-2005), one of the Brigaders who fascinated and inspired me while I made ‘Madrid before Hanita’. I've felt – and feel so even more today – that David's life story is much larger than I managed to show in that film. An initial version will be ready in October 2016, with the 80th anniversary of the founding of the International Brigades, to be uploaded on YouTube. The full version will be ready next year.
