Located outside Goulds, South Street, Dorchester, DT1 1BS. Statue of Sylvia Townsend Warner (novelist, writer and active supporter of the Spanish Republic) created by Denise Dutton. In the first of two spells in Spain she worked at the hospital in Granen alongside her partner Valentine Ackland. On the second trip she participated in the Second International Congress of Writers for the Defence of Culture, held in Valencia between 4 and 17 July 1937, Campaigned extensively for Spain throughout the war, including being the secretary of Dorset Peace Council.
