The Oxford International Brigade Memorial Committee is inviting IBMT members to the unveiling of a memorial to the volunteers from Oxfordshire at 12pm on Saturday 10 June at St Clement’s, Oxford, at the junction of Headington Hill and Morrell Avenue.
The memorial will be unveiled by Oxford’s Lord Mayor and speakers will include Carmen Negrin, grand-daughter of Juan Negrín, the last Prime Minister of the Spanish Republic, and Richard Baxell, IBMT Chair and author of ‘Unlikely Warriors.

The organisers say that the ceremony should last for no more than an hour. Some seating may be available with advance notice. In the evening there will be a concert in tribute to the men and women of Oxfordshire who fought for freedom in the Spanish Civil War 1936-39, at West Oxford Community Centre, Botley Road, OX2 0BT. Featuring live music and dancing from Ran Kan Kan, Camino del Flamenco, Na-Mara, La Pasionaria's Farewell Speech and The Internationale. Bar opens at 7pm and music will run from 7:45pm-11:30pm; all proceeds will go towards the Oxford Memorial to be erected in honour of the Volunteers from Oxfordshire. Tickets are £20 on the door, or £15 if bought in advance before 5 June.
